This policy explains what thebestmovies.lol collects, why, and what we do with it. The site is run by @shittyvibecoder. Paid checkout is handled by Polar (merchant of record), not by us storing your card number.
What we collect
- Account. Email address; name and profile image if a social login provides them. Email sign-in uses a one-time link, not a password we store.
- Votes and board activity. Which titles you vote for, free vs paid votes, Claim #1 spends, suggestions, and paid listings. An optional poster URL you paste is stored and shown on the public board. Public pages may show your display name as a top fan or in the activity line.
- Orders (metadata only). We store Polar order IDs, amounts, vote credits granted, and listing details so we can fulfill and refund. We do not store full card numbers.
- Technical logs. Standard server logs (IP, user agent, timestamps) for abuse, debugging, and keeping the site up. We don’t run a separate ad tracker on the site today.
How we use it
To run the ranking, sign you in, count votes, list movies, fulfill Polar payments, stop cheating, and reply if you contact us. We do not sell personal data. We don’t use your votes to train a public AI model.
Who else sees it
- Polar — checkout, tax, invoices, refunds. Their privacy policy applies to payment data.
- Auth providers — Google, X, or Facebook if you choose those logins; they share the profile fields you authorize.
- Neon — Postgres in AWS US East (Ohio /
aws-us-east-2), where account and board data live. - Netlify — hosts the app and may process request logs.
- Email delivery — if we send magic links through an SMTP provider, that provider sees the address and the link.
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the site and other users from fraud or abuse.
Cookies and similar tech
We use cookies (or similar storage) that are needed to keep you signed in and to protect Auth.js sessions. The sign-in cookie lasts up to 90 days and is refreshed while you use the site. These are functional, not advertising pixels. If you reject cookies in your browser, sign-in may not work.
How long we keep it
Account and vote history stay while the site and your account exist. You can ask us to delete your account; we will remove or anonymize personal fields we control. Public vote totals on a movie may remain (the count is the product). Polar keeps payment records under their rules. Server logs are rotated on a short cycle.
Your choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data, or to object to certain processing. Email hello@thebestmovies.lol or message @shittyvibecoder. If you signed in with Google, X, or Facebook, you can also revoke access in that provider’s settings.
Children under 13 should not use the site. We don’t knowingly collect data from them. If you think we did, tell us and we will delete it.
International
The operator may be outside your country. Data is stored in the United States (Ohio). If you use the site from elsewhere, you understand that transfer.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top. Continued use means you have read the new version.
